Insert Keywords in Your Content for SEO

You can tell the search engines what your most important keyword (or keyword chain) is by consistently positioning your keyword in the right places on your site. This helps search engines return your site when a user’s search matches your keyword.
For example, if your main keyword is best tile shop NYC a user searching for the best tile shop in NYC will easily come across your site in search results (provided other SEO factors are in place).

Title
The most important place to insert your main keyword is in the Meta Title tag. The Title content should serve as a three to five word summary of the web page’s content.
Quick Tips:
The Meta Title tag must contain 60 - 70 characters (including spaces).
Place one main keyword. Use two only if it makes sense to the reader.
The content of the Meta Title tag must be unique for each web page.

***
Description
The Meta Description tag content must describe the content of the web page, but in much more detail as compared to the Title content. Place the main keyword in the Meta Description tag content, making sure that it is relevant to the surrounding text.
Quick Tips:
The Meta Description tag must contain 150 - 160 characters (including spaces).
If you insert the rest of the chosen keywords, do it in such a way so that it makes perfect sense to the reader.
The Meta Title and Meta Description are the snippets of information seen in organic search results before your potential client visits your site (as shown below).
NOTE: The search snippet must contain convincing text that makes the reader want to click.
Below is an example of a search snippet with an ideal description for the search term, tile shop:

H1
The Header tag consists of h1 through h6 tags. The Header tag content is visible on the web page, unlike Meta Title tag and Meta Description tag content, which can only be seen in search results.
The h1 tag is the most important and essential SEO element of your web page. It must contain your main keyword.
Quick Tips:
Your h1 tag must not be identical to the Title tag.
Give unique and relevant h1 tag content to each web page.

Content
This is the most important part of the page as it speaks to your site visitor on your behalf. Search engines are attracted to unique and quality site content that gives valuable information to the users. Apart from looking for valuable information, search engine robots also look for the presence of your keywords.
Quick Tips:
Insert your main keyword in the first paragraph (preferably in the first few lines).
Include all the keywords in the rest of the content such that it reads well to the user.
Never compromise the grammar in an effort to insert keywords in the content.
For example, if your keyword is best tile shop NYC, make sure you write, best tile shop in NYC in the content.

Image Alt Text
A human site visitor can see your site images but search engines cannot. This is why you are required to describe the image or graphics on your site in text format and include it in the alt attribute.
Insert your main keyword in the Alt Text content.
Check whether all of the images on your site have Alt Text using WooRank Website Review, as shown in the sample test below:

Quick Tips:
Some web browsers may not load the images on your site. In this case, the Alt Text is visible to the user. So make sure your Alt Text content makes sense to the site visitor.
Your Alt Text content must be relevant to the content that surrounds the image. For example, if your website sells anti-virus software, describe an image of a lady working on her PC as Browse the web Virus-Free, rather than Lady working on her PC.

***
URL
You can use your main keyword in your URL if the domain is available. You should only have a keyword domain if your site offers relevant and quality content. Sites found to be using keyword domains and offering low quality content will likely not rank high in search results.
Quick Tip:
You can add your brand to your keyword in the URL, for example, www.seaporttileshop.com, where Seaport is the brand while tile shop is the keyword.

***
Anchor Text
Anchor Text is the words in your content that are linked to external or internal web pages. Include your main keyword in the Anchor Text.
Quick Tips:
Only 50 percent of the Anchor Texts on a single page can be keywords.
For the other 50 percent use your brand name, www.yoursite.com, or generic text like read more, and, click here.

NOTE:
There is something called a Meta Keywords tag that you may find in your CMS. This tag is no longer used to determine the keywords of your site, so it is safe to ignore this tag.
Do not change your keywords to plural/singular versions or add hyphens; be consistent.
Run your site through the WooRank Website Review feature for a quick preview of your keywords consistency.
